“Two years ago, I told a family friend I was going to have a Sweet 16 party. He laughed at me and said ‘Sure you will.’ I knew a long time ago I would have a dream party. I just didn’t know how. When I asked my mom, she told me that we didn’t have one for my two older sisters, so it wouldn’t be fair to have one for me. Then I asked her if we could have a Sweet 16, but instead of it being about just me, could we have a fund raiser? My mom said ‘That, we can do.’ At first, we were thinking of having the party at a fire house or something and maybe charging $20 for people to come. Then a good friend said ‘Why don’t you dream big? Where would be your dream place to have it and what would your dream party look like?’ I told her I would LOVE to have it at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie, New York and have a Purple Winter Wonderland theme. She said ‘OK, done. Let’s do it.
